Pink Pleasures for V Day!

Single or otherwise, I always loved Valentine's Day! The cards and flowers and associated color scheme... love it all. At the same time I am willing to acknowledge that there is a considerable amount of nonsense that goes along with the holiday as well. There's the pressure to create some fantastically romantic extravaganza... and romance almost always falls short (we'll touch upon this later I'm sure). And let's not forget the horrors suffered by women in other countries laboring for flower producers so American gals can have their roses.

Valentine's Day is about love in all its forms (romantic, familial, whathaveyou) and it is about sensual indulgence (chocolate or otherwise). Indulge yourself. Don't expect someone to make this day happen for you and you'll avoid the pitfalls of VDay disappointments.

Love the hair, love the glasses.

This appeals to someplace deep within me.
In my uterus, perhaps, where I also long to bake and organize.

There is nothing more retrofabulous than this record player.

And, of course, the dress.

Blue Day

Blue for me is not a sadness but a place of reflection. Waters mirrors skies. All blue. All serene and capable of drawing us into ourselves by their infinite depth. And... it's a wonderful color for the colder months.

Shoes as Identity

I think women's propensity toward shoe collecting has much to do with the assumed persona. Actors speak frequently about stepping into the shoes of another, meaning the adopted persona of another. Shoes are part function (for some more than others) and part fantasy. With this in mind, Fendi you have failed us this season.

Dear Fendi, I just don't believe the story you're trying to feed me with your shoes... you must sell me this identity. While this shoe may suggest wildebeests and adventures in frozen landscapes, it is mere suggestion. In reality, this shoe represents puddle-hopping on a chilly New York day so as not to damage one's furs.

Robert Clergerie tells me of the wild winter primitive that lurks inside my soul. Trudging through icy tundras, avoiding men with clubs, eating raw meat but not in a sushi way... It could easily be paired with dirty hide strips that serve only to protect you from the elements. I am the ancestral princess of a snow-entrenched queendom, completely untamed and ready to club a seal.

My favorite, however, is the Christian Louboutin Splash Fur heel we see here. It takes us in the other direction. This shoe is not a reality, it is decidedly fantasy. For the snow-bunny fashionista with her Barbarella thighs looming above elongated legs.

Shoes help express the multifaceted nature of women.
This post was brought to you by the wild ancient sexuality that lurks in all of us...

Thank you Raquel Welch.

On a personal note: I don't support the sale of furs.

Cindy Sherman - Doll Clothes

This silent short film was made in 1975. I look to Cindy Sherman to understand something more of identity, particularly that of women. Our ability to "change identities" merely by expressing different aspects of our nature/persona/whatever.

Groucho knows something about something...

Wives are people who feel they don't dance enough.
